Carpets and pancakes

Guess what? The wool from one in seven British sheep is spun, dyed and woven into first class carpets by Brintons of Kidderminster! One of those venerable British firms you'd imagine would be outsourcing production to Eastern Europe or beyond. But everything's still made a stone's throw from the site of the original factory.

When I arrived today I was nearly mown down by the Mayor running the pancake race through the town centre. He'd given up on flipping though!

Fiddling around

www.abcteach.com

I have spent today playing with web forms. This site needed a contact form, and blogger takes html. Hey presto! emailmeform.com to the rescue. Then the doorbell chimed and the postman was there with a Network Attached Storage (NAS) drive. Like a server, but only £80 from Buffalo. Making it visible on a home network is easy. Figuring out how to make it available anywhere (really!) there's a web connection is a bit trickier. So far, so good.

Self-employment Week 1. How many people have said, "Have you got a website?"

Pick a name... robbowker.co.uk has been snapped-up by a namesake. I'm sure he's a lovely bloke, but if you want an entertainer for children's parties - you are in the wrong place.

robbowker.com's taken too. Even after registering a domain and getting it hosted, I'd feel the need to pour loads of time into design and writing - just when I need to be doing other stuff.

I decided to do what I'd tell anyone: don't reinvent the wheel if you don't need to. Just make a few pages of relevant info and signpost it. Hence Blogger!

I have been practising, this week I finished Typerwriter Heaven.
